Walking and cycling during your holiday in North Brabant

Many walking and cycling enthusiasts have known this for years, but since the coronavirus crisis, many Dutch people have been gripped by “cycling and walking fever”. We are flocking to the beautiful countryside. This “new” discovery will ensure that many people continue to go on regular trips in the future. During a holiday in North Brabant at Recreatiepark Duinhoeve, you will find yourself in a walking and cycling paradise. The much-loved De Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park offers many routes. But south of our holiday park, towards Tilburg, Oisterwijk and Boxtel, there are also many opportunities for walking and cycling in North Brabant.

🤩 Our top 3 walking routes:

Surviving in “De Brand”

5.4 kilometres

The start of this route is actually at Biezenmortel. However, the easiest way to reach this route from our campsite is to walk along the Oude Bossche Baan towards the Rustende Jager and then turn into Gommelsestraat. Just before the stream, turn left and follow the walking route to point 8, then continue along the rest of this special route.

De Brand is a Natura 2000 area. The soil consists of various layers of loam and there is a wide variety of trees, plants and shrubs. Many (rare) mushrooms and animals also live here. Each number on the route tells a story, which is great fun to pause and take a closer look at the surroundings.

Bosch en Duin

4.3 kilometres

The Bosch en Duin walking route starts at the café-restaurant of the same name. Behind our campsite is the Oude Bossche Baan; follow this until you reach the restaurant. Walk towards the dunes and follow the seven points of this beautiful route.

The first part of the Bosch en Duin walking route goes through the forest, which is predominantly coniferous, and along the medieval ramparts. At point 4, you can enjoy the beautiful heathland, which at points 5 and 6 gives way to the spectacle of the sand dunes. At the end, from point 7, there is a dog walking area. Our recommendation? After finishing the walk, take a short stroll to the Loonse en Drunense Duinen viewpoint.

A long walk through the dunes

17.2 kilometres

It's holiday time, so you have plenty of time for a long walk with plenty of breaks in between. The most convenient starting point for this route is also from our holiday park at Landgoed Bosch en Duin. You can reach it via the Oude Bossche Baan and follow the various junctions from point 30. Be careful at points 18 and 27 not to walk to the actual start and end points.

Enjoy the diversity of flora and fauna in the Brabant Sahara along this route. Drifting sand, heathland, forests and various animals. You will thoroughly enjoy yourself here! Take a break along the way and take in the view. Beautiful, isn't it?

👍 Our top 3 cycling routes:

Quarter of Oisterwijk

24.5 kilometres

To follow this cycle route, it is best to first cycle or drive to Udenhout via Schoorstraat, where you can pick up the route on Groenstraat. The numbers on the route map each tell a story about the place where you are or are passing through.

The Oisterwijk Quarter is the westernmost part of the Meierij van Den Bosch. The route passes through a number of villages that were part of this quarter of Oisterwijk in the late Middle Ages. That is why you will pass many old farms, monumental buildings and a few windmills along the way. Of course, there will also be plenty of nature-rich areas with trees and water.

Around the Brabant Dunes

51.1 kilometers

To the west of our campsite lies the town of Loon op Zand. This town is the starting point for a 50-kilometer bike ride around the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. The easiest way to start the route is at junction 36 on the Oude Bossche Baan, just behind our campsite.

The cycling route around the dunes takes you past towns and hamlets such as Loon op Zand, Loons Hoekje, Giersbergen, Bergenshuizen, and Biezenmortel. Along the way, there are many beautiful places to stop for a drink or take a nice photo as a souvenir of this bike ride. Of course, you can follow this route with your own or a rented (electric) bike.

Traces of the past

23.2 kilometres

For this cycle route, you need to head towards Eindhoven. The Traces of the Past cycle route starts in Oirschot to be precise and takes you past cultural-historical sights and beautiful nature reserves. Fun and easy for cyclists of all ages.

We recommend stopping at each point along the route, reading the description and seeing what you can see today. Along the way, there are plenty of nice places to take a break and enjoy a snack and a drink. Good at reading maps? You can also easily extend your route without missing the most beautiful hotspots along the way.

Endless walking and cycling opportunities in Brabant

From Recreatiepark Duinhoeve on the Oude Bossche Baan, you can also map out your own route using the junction network. Cycling junction 36 is located just behind our park. The various Vincent van Gogh cycling routes in Brabant are also great fun. Did you know that you can stay with us in Vincent van Gogh style? The province of North Brabant is working hard to bring all kinds of important aspects of this artist's life back to life in various places and ways throughout the province.
